What If I’m Missing All Of My Lower Teeth?
Losing all your lower teeth can impact everything from how you chew to how you speak—and it can drastically affect your confidence. Fortunately, today’s implant dentistry offers secure, long-lasting solutions that go far beyond traditional dentures. At South Mississippi Oral Surgery & Implant Center in Gulfport, we specialize in advanced implant-supported restorations tailored to patients who have lost all their lower teeth.
Lower dentures that rest solely on the gums often shift and cause sore spots, making it difficult to enjoy your favorite foods or feel confident in social settings. Implant-supported dentures, however, offer greater stability, comfort, and function. Based on your oral anatomy, lifestyle, and preferences, we’ll help you choose the best option to restore your lower arch and improve your quality of life. Below are several treatment options we offer for fully edentulous lower jaws.
Ball Attachment Denture
Also known as a “snap-in” denture, this option uses two dental implants placed in the lower jaw to secure a removable denture with ball-shaped attachments. It snaps in and out easily for cleaning but fits more securely than a traditional denture. Patients appreciate the increased stability, reduced movement, and improved chewing function.
Bar Attachment Denture
In this method, three or more implants are connected by a custom-fabricated support bar. The denture clips onto the bar, distributing biting forces more evenly across the implants. This option offers a strong, stable fit and better long-term durability, with easy removal for daily cleaning.
Screw Retained Denture
This is a fixed (non-removable) denture that is permanently secured to four or more implants using screws. Patients cannot remove it on their own, but it provides the most natural chewing and speaking experience of all full-arch implant solutions. Routine maintenance is handled at the dental office.
Individual Implants
For the most natural tooth replacement, individual dental implants can be placed across the jaw, each supporting a crown. This option is typically used when bone quality and quantity are excellent. Though more involved and costly, it provides the closest match to natural teeth in appearance and function.
What If I’m Missing All Of My Upper Teeth?
Losing all upper teeth presents a different set of challenges, especially with traditional dentures that cover the palate. Fortunately, implant-supported upper dentures provide improved comfort, function, and taste sensation by allowing the upper palate to remain uncovered. At our Gulfport practice, we offer several implant options to restore your full upper arch while maximizing your confidence and convenience.
Implant Retained Upper Denture
A removable upper denture can be anchored to four or more implants using a snap-in or bar-retained design. Unlike traditional dentures, this solution offers a secure fit without needing adhesive, and the design can leave the palate uncovered—allowing for better taste and a more natural feel.
Individual Upper Implants
As with the lower jaw, individual implants can be used to support crowns or bridges across the upper arch. This is often the ideal solution for patients wanting the most natural look and feel, as each tooth is independently supported. It’s best for those with excellent bone volume or who are candidates for grafting.
